Cabaret features Janis Siegel and her unmistakable voice

Anyone who has listened to the music of The Manhattan Transfer ever since they debuted in 1975 will recognize the voice of Janis Siegel who sang lead on some of their biggest hits, such as “Birdland”, “Operator” and “Chanson D’Amour”. Along the way Siegel has established herself as a successful solo artist as well.

The annual compilation of the Gotta Go Top 10 Best Performing Arts performances in Indianapolis is always difficult to select due to the quantity of great talent and shows in the Indy metro area. As the 12th largest city in the nation, the Circle City offers something for just about everyone.

It was going to take more than a bad cold to keep Sam Harris down. Reinforcing that “the show must go on,” and like the trouper he is, Harris brought down the house during Broadway, Ballads & Blues, the 2012 season opener, at the Cabaret at the Columbia Club, Friday night. The show repeats Saturday at 8:00 p.m.

I can’t think of a more elegant and sophisticated setting for New York-style cabaret than than the Columbia Club. Thursday night’s searing wind made the lights from the Monument Circle tree sway, creating tracers through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Crystal Terrace room. What a picture-perfect backdrop for a Christmas-themed show!
