Master Classes

The Cabaret prides itself in reaching beyond the audience. By bringing world-class performers to Indianapolis for shows, The Cabaret is able to capitalize on their time and talent by offering Master Classes to promising high school youth and the general public. Classes provide participants with the opportunity to hone their musicianship and performance technique in various genres, including: Broadway, the Great American Songbook, Jazz and popular music. Learn more about Master Classes »

Cabaret Intensive

The Cabaret offers an intensive performance class that focuses on teaching students to apply acting skills and performance techniques in live performance situations. Class topics range from building repertoire, song selection, connecting with the audience, lyric interpretation, microphone technique, stage presence and performance/career development. Interactive Discussion Series

Throughout the season, The Cabaret hosts several interactive discussions covering a variety of theater, music and cabaret related topics. Discussions are free and open to the public.

Indiana Music Spotlight

The Indiana Composer Spotlight showcases the work of Indiana composers such as Cole Porter and Hoagy Carmichael. In an effort to preserve their legacy and to highlight Indiana's rich musical heritage, show's will be chosen and/or created that will put the work of Indiana's beloved composers in the spotlight.

Talent Development Classes and Workshops

Talent development classes and workshops provide young adults (high school through college) and adults practical and advanced training in the art of vocal and live performance. Examples of class topics include: vocal performance, microphone technique, song interpretation, selecting and working with an accompanist, music technology, the Great American Songbook, producing a CD, developing a professional portfolio, performance wardrobe and creating a cabaret show. Educational Performances

The Cabaret and Indy Jazz Fest have partnered to create top-notch musical educational performances that provide interactive opportunities for students to learn about the history and legacy of America's popular music—The Great American Song Book and Jazz. Featuring the area's finest cabaret/jazz singers, musicians, and educators, these performances offer students the unique opportunity to interact with the performers while learning about our countries rich musical history.

Internships

The Cabaret offers three internships annually, during the Fall Semester, Spring Semester, and Summer. The Cabaret at The Columbia Club, an organization that spotlights high caliber local and national performers and music education to the Indianapolis community, is seeking an intern to assist in all aspects of production, education, development and administration. This position is extremely hands-on. The intern will work closely with our staff of three, our performers and students participating in our master classes.
