As we near the one-year anniversary of Gavin Creel’s final solo performance, we are honored to share a loving video and photo tribute in remembrance of his extraordinary spirit.

On May 10 & 11, 2024, The Cabaret had the privilege of hosting what would become Gavin’s last-ever solo show — an evening filled with his trademark warmth, talent, and heart. None of us could have known then that we were witnessing such a profoundly meaningful moment, just months before his passing on September 30, following a sudden and brave battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. He was 48.

With the heartfelt encouragement and blessing of Gavin’s team, we are humbled to release some highlights from that unforgettable performance—images and video from the show that capture his joy, generosity, and deep connection with the audience.

His joy, energy, and deep connection with the audience should be experienced by all, and it is an honor to share these moments with you.

This was Gavin’s second time at The Cabaret.

He arrived in 2024 with fond memories of his previous experience at The Cabaret in 2019, remembering our names and already eager to plan a future performance on our stage. He holds such a special place in the hearts of our staff. As such, we cherish the Polaroid messages Gavin left during his visit, a recent tradition among our visiting artists.

Gavin left a gift for us when he was here: his suit.

During his 2024 visit, he FaceTimed his friend Shoshana Bean to share a laugh about her dress, which is displayed in our dressing room. After wearing it on stage during her performance at The Cabaret, she decided it was time to retire the dress. This led Gavin, in a moment of his signature kindness, to retire his own suit and leave it for us to display.

We now display it proudly in our space, a lasting tribute to his artistry, humor, and the meaningful relationships he cultivated with colleagues, friends, and fans, including all of us here at The Cabaret.

Gavin’s energy was infectious.

Gavin had a profound effect on all who had the privilege to meet him. His vibrant spirit was unlike any other. He was as kind as he was talented, and every moment with him was a moment to cherish.

It is with deep love, respect, and gratitude that we share these memories with you.

We hope these glimpses of Gavin’s final solo show bring comfort and joy to everyone who misses him. We certainly do.
