About the show.

Move On: A Sondheim Adventure

Jazz meets Broadway as acclaimed vocalist Cyrille Aimée takes a deep dive into the Stephen Sondheim songbook. What began as a celebration of a legendary Broadway songwriter transformed into a cathartic autobiography, as one song after another captured her deepest personal feelings. Sondheim hand-picked Cyrille to star alongside the legendary Bernadette Peters in the Encores! tribute to Sondheim at New York’s City Center, backed by Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. One thing led to another, and the stage was set for her newest album, Move On: A Sondheim Adventure, a full immersion into the Sondheim canon.

A native of France, Cyrille’s culturally rich background (Dominican and French Gypsy) and conservatory training form the rhythmic and expressive foundation of her art. The acclaimed vocalist ventured from singing on street corners in Europe to dazzling audiences at the world’s most prestigious jazz festivals; from sneaking out to sing in gypsy encampments in her native France to acting on Broadway; from braving the notoriously tough audiences at New York’s Apollo Theatre to being called a “rising star in the galaxy of jazz singers” by the New York Times.

“Ms. Aimée’s other unmistakable trademark is a penchant for sonic playfulness. A good point of comparison might be Ella Fitzgerald…”
