The seasons change. Winter turns to Spring. Spring turns to Summer. But there’s always a constant. There’s a Cabaret season on the horizon. As much as I love the Cabaret, even I know that’s weak…….I’m sorry.
The point is the Cabaret’s summer season is just about to start. In an effort to inspire some excitement and generate new fans of this great organization, I wanted to write a brief preview of the first show of the 2017 summer season.
I’m for real confident it’s going to be ridiculous. The season is kicking off with the lovely and talented Krysta Rodriguez.
I am positive that many of you will recognize Krysta. She just had a recurring role on Quantico during the season that recently ended in May. She’s been on The Mysteries of Laura as well as Younger (which features Tony Winner Sutton Foster who has performed at the Cabaret). This season she was also played the role of “Summer Henderson” alongside John Lithgow in the really, really, really riotously funny NBC sitcom Trial & Error. Krysta is probably best known for her role on Smash which featured a myriad of Broadway heavyweights like Tony Nominee Megan Hilty (who has performed at the Cabaret), Tony Winner Leslie Odom Jr (who has performed at the Cabaret), Tony Nominee Jeremy Jordan (who has performed at the Cabaret), Cheyenne Jackson (who has performed at the Cabaret), Seth Rudetsky (who will perform at the Cabaret this season) and Tony Winner Christine Ebersole (who has performed at the Cabaret).
Have I drilled it home? This organization is not some fly by night organization. They know how to bring the best. Like the best, best, best of Broadway to Indianapolis. And Krysta Rodriguez is yet another example of this type of talent.
But wait. I’ve only just begun. I’ve just mentioned Krysta’s TV credits. Did you think that was it? Duh. She’s been on Broadway too. She originated the role of “Wednesday Addams” in The Addams Family. She headlined in the original musical First Date. Krysta also performed in the original production and in a revival of Spring Awakening. The original production featured Tony Nominee Jonathan Groff (who has performed at the Cabaret). This gal keeps good company.
I’m sorry. I can’t help myself at this point. I promise to stop using this parenthetical if you come to the Cabaret, OK?
Krysta’s show will features songs and stories from her life and career thus far. The bottom line is she’s going to blow the roof off the joint and you shouldn’t miss it.
Support the arts. Support the LOCAL arts. In this instance specifically, support the Cabaret. You’ll thank yourself when you do. I will also thank you. And so will Krysta Rodriguez.
