Laura Benanti Master Class Tips

Posted by admin on June 12, 2014

Star of Broadway,  television (NBC’s The Playboy ClubGo On, and The Sound of Music Live!), and Tony Award winning actress (Gypsy) Laura Benanti taught a master class at The Cabaret on June 7, 2014. Here are some of her tips for aspiring performers:

  • When performing on stage, don’t hold your hands at your stomach. This is a very protective stance and it doesn’t let the audience in. When you want to use your hands ask yourself: Why?
  • Be specific!
  • Think long, soft and wide when singing.
  • When you perform, you can do it to entertain people or you can see it as a way  of bringing relief to people, serving people.
  • In theater you need to be bigger because you need to grab the audience. Stand taller and open yourself up.
  • Get physically relaxed, calm your mind, and get into a space where you are centered, confident in your technique and just let it go.

"Awesome venue! I tell everyone I know about The Cabaret and encourage them to see a show."
